Ever notice how you can fix one problem, only to have another suspiciously similar one show up wearing a different outfit?
New job. Same frustration.
New relationship. Same patterns.
New planner. Same overwhelm. (But at least the planner is pretty.)
Here's something I've learned after more than 20 years of coaching:
The problem people come to me with isn't always the problem that's keeping them stuck.
And that's where things get interesting.
The Problem Underneath the Problem
A woman comes to coaching because she's overwhelmed.
Her calendar is packed, everyone needs something, and she's exhausted before her second cup of coffee.
She thinks she needs better time management.
But as we start talking, something interesting happens.
We discover she's saying yes when she wants to say no. She feels responsible for everyone else's happiness.
She's terrified of disappointing people who, ironically, don't seem particularly concerned about disappointing her.
She doesn't have a calendar problem. She has a boundaries problem.
Or maybe a successful man comes to me because he's lost his motivation.
He's accomplished things he once dreamed about. From the outside, his life looks pretty darn good.
But inside? He's restless, unfulfilled, and wondering why he can't just be happy with what he has.
He thinks he needs a new goal.
But what if he's spent so many years chasing what he should want that he's forgotten to ask himself what he actually wants?
He doesn't necessarily need another goal. He needs to reconnect with himself.
And then there's the woman who second-guesses EVERYTHING.
She researches, analyzes, asks six friends, consults Google, sleeps on it, and then circles right back to where she started.
Sound familiar? 🙋♀️
She thinks she needs more information.
What she may actually need is more trust in herself.
You Can Change Your Circumstances Without Changing Your Patterns
Here's where we tend to get ourselves into trouble.
We spend so much time trying to fix what's happening around us that we rarely stop to question what's happening within us.
We change jobs. Rearrange schedules. Buy planners. Set goals. Read books. Listen to podcasts.
We promise ourselves that THIS time things will be different.
And sometimes they are.
For about eleven minutes.
Until the same thinking patterns follow us into our shiny new circumstances.
Because changing your circumstances doesn't automatically change the beliefs and behaviors you bring into them.
Now, don't misunderstand me.
Sometimes the job really does stink. The relationship really isn't healthy. Or you've simply got too much on your plate.
Not everything is a mindset problem, and we certainly don't need to blame ourselves for every difficult situation.
But understanding our patterns can completely change how we respond, what we tolerate, and what we choose next.
And THAT is where we start getting somewhere.
Maybe You're Asking the Wrong Questions
Instead of asking, "How do I fix this?"
Try getting a little more curious.
What keeps showing up in my life, even when my circumstances change?
Where am I second-guessing myself instead of trusting what I already know?
What am I tolerating that I actually have the power to change?
Am I building the life I want, or the life I think I'm supposed to want?
Those aren't always comfortable questions.
But the answers can be incredibly revealing.
And sometimes, one good question will take you further than another six months of trying harder at the wrong thing.
This Is Why I Love What I Do. ❤️
People come to coaching feeling stuck, overwhelmed, and sometimes unsure whether things can actually get better.
They've thought about their problems. Talked about their problems. Googled their problems.
They may even have a perfectly organized list of their problems. (Gold star for organization! ⭐️)
But what they're really looking for is hope, clarity, and a way forward.
And here's what I believe:
You don't have to have everything figured out to start changing your life.
You need to begin recognizing what's keeping you stuck, rebuild confidence in yourself, and take meaningful steps forward.
That's the work I love doing with my clients.
Helping them see what they haven't been able to see.
Helping them trust themselves again.
Helping them stop living according to everyone else's expectations and start honoring who they really are.
Because the greatest gift isn't a perfect life.
It's knowing you can trust yourself to navigate the life you have, and create more of the life you want.
Hope. Confidence. Self-trust. Authenticity.
And when those things begin to grow, the ripple effects can be extraordinary.
Better relationships. Better decisions. New opportunities. More peace.
And a life that feels a little less like something to survive and a lot more like something to enjoy.
One Last Thought...
What if the thing you've been trying so hard to fix isn't actually the thing keeping you stuck?
And what if understanding what's underneath it is exactly what helps you move forward?
Something to think about over your next cup of coffee. ☕️
And maybe before you buy another planner. 😉

P.S. If you're successful on paper but feeling stuck in real life, my free Aligned Success Audit is a great place to start. Sometimes a different question changes everything. Respond with a "yes" and I'll shoot it over to you.
You Did More Than You Think. Your Brain Just Isn't Counting. Everyone I've talked to recently is stressed. Not "I had a busy week" stressed. More like "I'm tired in a way a nap can't fix" stressed.🙄 As a high achiever myself, I get it. You finished your to-do list at 4:47 p.m. and immediately wrote a new one. You got a big win on Tuesday and by Wednesday it didn't count anymore. You can close out a 12-hour day and still lie in bed thinking, "I should have done more."😫 Here's what I need you...
If you caught either of these on LinkedIn already, consider this your excuse to actually click through and read the whole thing this time. If you're not on LinkedIn, or you scrolled past it in 2 seconds like we all do, here's your second chance.😊 Everyone Thinks You've Got It Together. That's The Problem. You answer emails at 11pm. You remember everyone's birthday. You're the one people call when it all falls apart. And on paper, it's working. But here's the part that's hiding. The part that...
Your Life Doesn’t Need Another Storage Bin. It Needs Space. I shared this on LinkedIn earlier, but sharing here too in case you missed it or aren't subscribed there. It's a great reminder to make space for what matters most. XO If moving the same pile of clutter from one room to another counted as cardio, I would be in phenomenal shape. You know the pile. It starts on the kitchen counter. Then company is coming, so it moves to the dining table. Later, you need the table, so it gets relocated...
